Yes. Everyone is in on Mondays and Fridays, while Tuesday to Thursday our staff is free to work from the office or home.

Of course. If a project needs to move fast we bring in extra team members so that we can expedite the process in a way that doesn't sacrifice the well being of the project or the people involved in it.

We began back in 2014. Richard's freelance animation work was getting too demanding so he quit his job and started a studio, and then invited Jake to join him in this new adventure. Neither of them knew whether it would work, but they gave it a go and the gamble paid off. Two years later they had grown their team to five people, including Simon - another mutual friend of theirs that they invited to take over production. Together, Rich, Jake and Simon make up the directors of the studio. Their longstanding friendship and shared values has created a warm atmosphere in the studio that encourages employees to take both work and rest seriously, and to grow creatively and personally. After a few different locations, the studio settled in Muizenberg - home to great waves, beautiful views and some of the strangest people Cape Town has to offer. Needless to say, we fit in perfectly.

We've been doing our thing for over a decade. We started with animation in 2014, and added games to the fold in 2023. Animation is still our first passion and we'll only stop doing it if people stop asking us to.

Richard Bolland always felt a bit awkward that the studio was named after him, because it's become so much more than just his vision. Also, no-one could ever pronounce Bolland correctly. We went through various options before landing on something that honours our first decade, but feels fresh as we head into the next one.

We start at 8am and finish at 4:30pm, with an hour-long lunch break at 12pm.

We value people. That includes our clients, and our staff. We believe in serving our clients - making sure they're always getting our best work, that we're hitting our agreed deadlines, and that they are happy with the end result. We also believe in serving our staff - making sure they have what they need to be the best versions of themselves, both in and out the office. Our hope is to build a diverse team of people from different cultures and upbringings, who are able to have different world views, but understand the value of collaboration, kindness and respect. Our office is a safe space, no matter who you are.
